Forest Service Roads Value to Tourism Project

The Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association (CCCTA) is continuing online with the Engagement Phase of their joint pilot project, in partnership with the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNRORD). Presently decisions rely on a provincial policy related to value for our region’s Forest Service Roads, which include maintenance. This project is looking to create a model that can demonstrate the economic value for TOURISM on a given Forest Service Road. Resulting in a Tourism Value Model to be used as a decision-making tool to complement the current provincial policy putting tourism at the table on par with other sectors in our region!

Project Overview

Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association (CCCTA) has secured funding to undertake a pilot project to develop a model to represent the outdoor recreation value of Forest Service Roads for residents and tourists – for the tourism sector in our region. Value in this model will be determined by a number of factors associated with usage and economic impact.  This model will be utilized by the BC Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNRORD) alongside their current policies associated with making decisions related to the management and maintenance of Forest Service Roads in the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Region. CCCTA, as part of this process, is looking forward to gaining input from partner organizations, tourism businesses, elected individuals & local governments within the CCCT Region and working with other contributing organizations at the provincial level such as Destination BC. Read more in our media release here.

Now is the time to provide your input for TOURISM & RESIDENT RECREATION to be part of this value equation!

Our Survey

C4 Strategies and Larose Research & Strategy have been commissioned by the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association (CCCTA) to administer a survey of local businesses and related organizations that rely on Forest Service Roads (FSRs) in the Cariboo Forest Region. The purpose of the survey is to assist with developing a methodology for identifying the relative importance of FSRs for tourism and recreation in the Cariboo Forest Region. This survey is now closed and we will begin community consultation meetings for those who are/were not able to provide their input electronically. The Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association (CCCTA) has identified an opportunity to strengthen its collaborative relationship with the Ministry of Forest, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNRORD).  Working with their consultants on this pilot project, the tourism association will undertake a significant amount of engagement across the region to offer tourism’s perspective around the recreation value of Forest Service Roads (FSRs). The goal is to inform FLNRORD’s policy and decisions with respect to planning, investment, and maintenance of FSRs in FLNRORD’s Cariboo Forest Region. The survey took approximately 15 minutes to complete. We realized your time is valuable so for fully completed survey responses we were offering a chance to win one of three Gift Certificates for Mountain Equipment Co-op (M.E.C.), valued at $100 each. Please ensure that the respondent for your business is able to speak to key aspects of the business operations, such as employment levels, tenure/permit types, etc. Also be assured that all your responses will be kept completely anonymous and confidential. Results will only be used by the project team to develop a road valuation model.  The CCCTA and FLNRORD will NOT be able to view individual responses. Any reporting will be done in aggregate, such that respondent identities will remain anonymous. The data collection, storage, access, and destruction are compliant with B.C.’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). Kindly take a few minutes to complete the survey (open until March 13th) and feel free to share the link with others: https://survey.constantcontact.com/survey/a07egvv1k76k5xbik8r/start
