Destination Development

The ten-year Destination Development Strategies for this region were formed through an iterative, consultative and collaborative process, which started in 2016. This region includes three primary planning areas which are the Chilcotin Central Coast, the Gold Rush Trail and, Interlakes.  The region is inclusive of Klemtu, Bella Bella and Wuikinuxv in the west, Lillooet and Yale in the south along with New Westminster on the Gold Rush Trail, Hartley Bay, Entiako and Finger-Tatuk Provincial Parks in the north and Wells Gray Park, Barriere and Clearwater in the east.  The region also includes a vast array of over 50 First Nations.

Chilcotin Central Coast

The Chilcotin Central Coast is one of British Columbia’s natural and cultural gems. It is also one of the least visited areas of the province. This planning area, which encompasses the area west of the Fraser River stretching across the Chilcotin Plateau to the central coast, north to include Hartley Bay, Entiako, Finger-Tatuk and Fraser River Provincial Parks, and south to include Bute Inlet, the Homathko Icefield and Big Creek Provincial Parks, is a region of incredible geographic and ecological diversity.

Gold Rush Trail

The Gold Rush Trail (GRT) is a stunning 750km corridor following the Fraser River and Fraser Canyon that follows traditional Indigenous trading routes utilized during the fur trade and expanded through the gold rushes of 1858–1862. As the only major, stand-alone, branded touring corridor in BC that is intimately tied to the confederation of British Columbia and the development that followed the Cariboo Gold Rush, this planning area delivers a distinct, scenic, heritage experience that can’t be found anywhere else in the province.

Interlakes

The Interlakes planning area is a place of lakes, rivers, ranchlands, and mountains that provide a rich backdrop for outdoor recreation and nature-based pursuits. Wells Gray Provincial Park is the flagship demand generator in the planning area, along with over 1,000 lakes that make this area a dreamland for anglers, paddlers, and families looking to enjoy a vacation together in nature.
